The Women’s OU softball team was supposed to play a second game agains JMU yesterday, but it was cancelled as well as all the other games for the day. A bad weather system was going through Oklahoma so they just decided to give everyone time off and start fresh today.
The OU Coach Patti Gasso really tore into the NCAA scheduling committee because they started the Florida St and Alabama game after the two-hour OU – JMU game delay. The Florida St – Alabama game didn’t start until 11:50 pm and it wasn’t over until about 2:30 am! That meant the athletes got to bed around 3 am at the earliest and had to get up for more games the same day. She said they should not have started that game. It wasn’t fair to the athletes and not the right thing to do just because it was scheduled that way. The committee said they had to follow the schedule even though there is a rule that clearly states no game will start after 11:00 pm!
So, yesterday they had another rain delay and this time they cancelled all the remaining games saying it was best to let all the teams come back with a days rest! Of course they didn’t mention Patta Gasso’s comments as the reason for the change.
So, OU will pay JMU at 3 pm today and Alabama and Florida St. will play later. Then the winners of these games will play on Tuesday and Wednesday and, if needed, Thursday!
Hopefully, OU will be playing those last few games!
