OU Wins!
West Virginia 13 – OU 16
This was a defensive struggle for both teams. OU and WV traded TDs in the first quarter and then it was all field goals after that. Neither team could get a good run started and finished. OU’s run game was pathetic with neither back breaking anything resembling a long run. The same went for the passing, Spencer Rattler was throwing well, but his receivers weren’t getting open down field for long gains.
WV wasn’t doing any better and they made a critical mistake in the fourth quarter that allowed OU to stop them and forced a punt. OU had to start on their own 8 yard line and drive the length of the field to get the winning field goal. None of the field goals were from a very long distance, mostly chips shots and both teams made all their opportunities.
I can’t understand why OUs offense can’t get more stuff done. The O-line does look really fragile, like they can’t get down and dirty and push the defense back. While Rattler didn’t get sack very many times, he was hurried a lot and his receivers weren’t getting open. WV actually lead this game at the half 10 to 7. I think OU is going to have to do a lot, lot better if they plan to win at Kansas State and or Texas the next two weeks. What I’ve seen so far isn’t going to get it done.
