We left yesterday around 10 am and headed out for Enid. We planned on stopping in Decatur, TX for the night and that worked out pretty good. The hotel we stayed in was a new one, but we’ll not stay there again! It was alright, but very hard to get to. Just off 287/81, but you had to double-back on the highway to get to the place. It’s on the wrong side of the road. I think it was a Hampton Inn and there’s a Baymont Inn and Suites just along side Hwy 51 which looks good from the road and easy to access. I think we’ll try that place next time we do this.
The room was Ok, a typical hotel/motel room without any kind of handicap facilities. We didn’t actually ask for a handicapped room so we got what we got and worked it out. I have a lot of trouble getting up and down from a normal (small and low) toilet! There are not grabber bars or anything else along the walls to help pull you up. Now at 71, I’m admitting I have troubles like this. Isn’t hard to see that when you see me just getting up from a chair at a table or at a restaurant. It’s just my knees and legs aren’t working like they used to. Anyway, we manage to get over that problem only for me to create another one. I forgot my mouth tape!
Yes, I have to tape my mouth shut every night while using the Bi-PAP machine. Because it forcibly blows are into my throat, some of that air wants to go out my mouth. If I’m not careful, I’ll start making all sorts of noises and that wakes up Ramona. She’s not a heavy sleeper anyway, so any slight noise in our bedroom, house, or neighborhood, wakes her up. And, once she’s awoke, she can’t go back to sleep! If she wakes me and tells me I’m making noise, I’ll roll over on my side and stop, for awhile or for the rest of the night. Unfortunately, Ramona is already awake so she says she looses a lot of sleep when I start making noise. Last night, in the hotel, I made a lot of noise because I didn’t have the tape to cover my mouth! Dummy me!
After we both struggled trying to get some sleep, I finally took the mask off and just slept without it for the rest of the night. Apparently that worked for me and some for Ramona, but she still didn’t get a very good night’s sleep. I can’t believe I forgot that tape. That’s like forgetting my mask almost. Anyway, we did get a late start on this morning and had to skip breakfast and just go straight for lunch later in the day. We still made good time getting to Enid. Arrived here about 3 pm and when straight to the hotel.
After checking in (and getting a handicapped equipped room), we went to Walmart and got some missing items. Then we stopped at Walgreens and bought some tape and a new grabber. I broke the other one moving into the hotel room in Decatur! So now I think we’re all set.
I called Jeff and we set up to meet him at Greenbrier tomorrow at 1:30. He’ll show us how to get checked-in and get Mom placed into a separate room for our visit. Jeff didn’t think we’d be there more than 30 to 40 minutes. We’ll see.
It’s OK, to be back in Enid, but I’m not crazy about being here. It’s 105 degrees today; that I don’t miss! There’s just nothing going on around here that’s very interesting to me or Ramona. Oh, we do like to visit with family, but you can only do so much of that with everyone getting as old as we all are, and we ALL are getting old!
We had dinner at Golden Chick after finding out that Pizza Hut was closed, gone, no long in business! There seems to be a lot of businesses in Enid that didn’t make it through the COVID-19 crisis. Not surprising.
So, we’er down for the evening and will start visiting and stuff tomorrow. It’s going to be a very long week!
