Update: OU Softball – World Series Championship Game 3

I guess the last time I wrote OU had just beaten JMU for the second time and was getting ready for their first semi-final game with Florida State. Well, that happened and OU lost!

Yes, Florida State beat OU 8 to 4. That game wasn’t good for OU at all. Florida St. jumped out early and got a big lead to quell any real hopes of an OU comeback, but they did make an effort by scoring four runs. The could have added more, but just didn’t get the hits they needed. OU also was the victim of some questionable umpiring with calls at 1st and home-plate going against OU and a non-call at third that should have taken away one of Florida St. scores. Patty Gasso said she also goofed by sending a runner home that got gunned down without much of an effort.  So, OU had their backs to the wall. The next game was the following evening at 6 pm.

That game started as the others did with FSU jumping out to a 2 to 0 lead. Didn’t seem like the OU bats were going to come alive until about the fourth inning. Then one of the OU players, second baseman, I think had a good solo home run.  That made it 2 to 1. Then the lead-off hitter for OU drew a walk and up comes Jocelyn Alo, and boom! out of the park. Two runs score and OU moves into the lead 3 to 1. From there things got much better. OU managed to score four more runs while only giving up 1, so the final score for this game was OU 6 – FSU 2!

Today’s game is at 2 pm with have a “winner take all” final World Series Game. Both teams should be putting everything they have into this final game of the season. I think OU will prevail, but I can’t guarantee that. On paper they are the better team, but their pitching has been suspect this entire series. They also haven’t played that well in the field and that’s unusual. We’ll just have to wait and see how it plays out!
