Once again I’m watching OU softball, only this time they are playing JMU in the semi-finals of the College World Series. Yeah, they got through Georgia the other afternoon with an 8 to 0 win. That was actually a short 6-inning game with the OU bats coming alive finally. That meant they got to go play again in the evening. The game was scheduled for 7 pm but didn’t actually start until about 9 pm due to a weather delay. Still, they play against the #2 ranked team, UCLA. This was the first meeting between the two teams this season. OU let UCLA get three runs in the second or third inning with OU coming back and getting three in the same or next inning. From that point on, it was all OU. When the dust settled after 6 and half innings, OU came away with the win 10 to 3. A very nice game.
So, that brings us to this game which is once again against the JMU upstarts! It started out just fine with OU going up 3 to 0 until the third inning when the OU pitcher threw a high riser to the same gal that knocked on out on her the last game they played. Same pitch, same results, a 3-run homer! Tie ballgame! Dang!
Now we’re in the bottom of the fifth and nothing has happened so far. OU has two outs on JMU, needing one more to get out of the inning. We’ll see what happens. Alright, three strikes and she’s out. That ends the fifth inning with the scored tied 3 to 3.
Well, OU didn’t do anything in the top half of the 6th inning. They didn’t even look like they knew what they were doing. Three up, three down. Now in the bottom of the 6th. That first out was a circus catch out in short left field! What a catch! And then second batter up also flies out to left. Two down already. Now, let’s get this next one. Struck her out! That’s it for the 6th inning. Now do something in the 7th, OU!
First batter up gets a bunt single. One on and no outs. Good start! Alright! That’s a double to the wall. The runner on first takes off and the ball is bobbled. The throw home isn’t close and the runner on second goes to third. OU 4 to 3! Still no outs! Alo almost hit one out of the park. Oh, if had just been straightened out! Oh, Alo struck out! Dang! One out! What was that. She swung at something on her shoes! Dang that was bad! That’s a home-run, no doubt about it! A two run smacker! OU 6 – JMU 3! Pop-up! Two down. Ground ball to third, that’s the third out at first.
Now only three more outs and OU could get this win. Bottom of the 7th and this could be the game. That’s a base hit to left. One on first and no outs! Fly out to second. One down, still runner on first! Oh, she drops the ball! That was a pop-up behind the catcher and the third basemen screwed it up! Dang! Struck her out! After getting behind, she got it across the plate. Two out with the runner still on first. They don’t dare steal against the OU catcher! Ok, that was a short hop to left and the runners move up. One on second and third now. Not a good play, but that ball was just hit were it was going to be hard to handle. OU looking a little shaky on defense. Kind of unusual, but they only need one more out. It’s the tying run at the plate though. She’s a big short gal and doesn’t look like a hitter. Now only if we’d throw her strikes. Full count, what else!!! STRUCK HER OUT! GAME OVER! OU WINS!!!!!!!
Great game! Now OU plays JMU again tonight at 6:00 pm.
